Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Saber Hossain Chowdhury said sustainable infrastructure development is immensely important for Bangladesh’s future. He said cliimate change and natural disasters pose serious challenges to our infrastructure, and we need innovative solutions to build resilience and ensure sustainability. We need to focus on research in areas such as smart materials and technologies for infrastructure development, climate-resilient infrastructure design, and sustainable infrastructure management.
Environment minister said this in his speech as the chief guest while inaugurating the Center for Smart Infrastructure Resilience and Sustainability (CSIRS-UIU) at United International University (UIU) on Saturday.
Environment Minister said, training and capacity building programs for professionals working in the infrastructure sector is highly required. The establishment of CSIRS-UIU marks a significant step towards advancing research and development in sustainable infrastructure solutions for Bangladesh and beyond. The minister also urged Universities around the country to pay more emphasis on sustainable infrastructure development.
Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia, Vice Chancellor of UIU, presided over the inaugural ceremony. Whereas Muhammad Ibrahim, Secretary, LGD of Ministry of LGRD and C was present as the special guest. Dr Md Mujibur Rahman, Professor of Civil Engineering, Professor Dr. Afzal Ahmed also delivered speech among others. It was attended by distinguished guests, representatives from academia, industry, and government agencies.
