Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, urged the youth to come forward in making cities, including Dhaka, more livable. She expressed confidence that young people can achieve this goal, with the current government ready to support them.

She made these remarks as the chief guest at a youth dialogue titled “Youth Leading Climate and Local Action for Cities,” held at the Daily Star Seminar Hall on World Cities Day 2024.

The advisor added that even 53 years after independence, Dhaka’s waste management system remains underdeveloped, and there is a lack of recreational spaces for children. She emphasized that creating livable cities requires collective effort.

The event was presided over by Chandan Z. Gomez, Senior Director of World Vision Bangladesh. Special guests included Dr. M. Shahidul Islam, Chairman of the Department of Geography and Environment at Dhaka University; Professor Mohammad Ali Naqi, Vice President of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB); and Dr. Ahmad Kamruzzaman Majumder, Chairman of CAPS.

Representatives from various educational institutions and youth forums also attended the event organized by the Center for Atmospheric Pollution Studies (CAPS) and World Vision Bangladesh.
