The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) agreed to initiate a specialized cell to ensure road safety in Chittagong. CCC Mayor Dr. Sahadat Hossain expressed his interest in forming the cell at a meeting with a delegation of the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP), an international organization working on road safety, at Nagar Bhaban today (12 February 2025).
GRSP Senior Road Policing Advisors Peter Jones and Al Stewart paid a courtesy call on Mayor Shahadat Hossain. They briefed the Mayor about their activities in Chittagong. GRSP has so far trained 338 officers of Chittagong Metropolitan Police on various aspects of road safety under the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS).
Mayor Shahadat Hossain highlighted the various initiatives taken by CCC to reduce road accidents in Chittagong city. He said that the CCC is working to build footover bridges and zebra crossings at 36 places in the city. He expressed interest in forming a separate specialized cell to further accelerate road safety activities.
The meeting was attended by CCC Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Touhidul Islam, Chief Engineer Abul Kashem, BIGRS Chittagong Initiative Coordinator Labib Tazwan, Surveillance Coordinator Kazi Shifun Newaz, Enforcement Coordinator Quazi Helal Uddin and Communication Officer Mahamudul Hasan.
