Speakers say at workshop organized by PKSF

Public-private initiatives required for food, nutrition security

Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) today organized a workshop titled ‘Agriculture, Farmers and PKSF in Development Stride’ and a day-long display of agricultural products at PKSF Bhaban in Agargaon to mark the 10th founding anniversary of its Integrated Agriculture Unit (IAU).

Chaired by PKSF chairman Dr M. Khairul Hossain, the workshop was graced by Dr Debashish Sarkar, Director General of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), as the Special Guest. Representatives from agriculture-related departments of the Bangladesh government, universities and other institutions were present at the event.

In his speech, Dr Debashish Sarkar emphasized on the need for large-scale expansion of agricultural innovations at the field level, ensuring integrated use of crops, fisheries, and livestock. He called upon the institutions involved in implementing the government’s agricultural programs and in agricultural research to work together in ensuring effective use of new agricultural technologies to increase production.

PKSF Chairman Dr M. Khairul Hossain said PKSF, through its IAU, is making a significant contribution in improving the socio-economic condition, climate adaptation and mitigation capacity of the underprivileged, marginal, small and medium farmers of the country with particular emphasis on women.

At the beginning of the program, PKSF Managing Director Dr Nomita Halder ndc highlighted the history of the IAU’s inception. She said, PKSF, to complement the government’s efforts, is making significant contributions through this unit in increasing food production and ensuring nutritional security and sustainable development of the country.
In the workshop, speakers called on all government and non-government entities to work together for agricultural development and ensuring food security in Bangladesh.

In the day-long exhibition, Partner Organizations (POs) of PKSF displayed various agricultural products. The exhibition of crops, fish, meat, dairy products, frozen products and other items produced by farmers from different parts of the country received a great response from the visitors.
