Urge for Software and Infrastructure Development in Healthcare

Huawei and eGeneration Limited recently organized a round table discussion at the Huawei Bangladesh Academy in GULSHAN, Dhaka titled ‘Healthcare Infrastructure Development and Software Innovation in Building Smart Bangladesh.’ Various policymakers of the health sector of Bangladesh, doctors, university faculty members, hospital administrative officers, Head of IT, and health professionals participated in this roundtable.

The discussion emphasized on importance of digital health services, technological infrastructure development and health service software innovation required in digital health services for smart Bangladesh.

Health is the number one fundamental primary need for the people of Bangladesh. To ensure access to healthcare facilities, digitalization of the health sector becomes a necessity of time. Huawei and eGeneration Limited are working together to provide ICT infrastructure and software services for the digitization of the healthcare sector in Bangladesh. Lack of access to primary healthcare facility for the mass, inadequate doctors, nurses, health technicians as well as IT infrastructure, Hospital automation and software usages were the key points discussed in the roundtable.

Professor Dr. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University was attended the event as a chief guest while SM Ashraful Islam, the chairman of eGeneration Limited moderated the session.

Zhangcheng (Justin), Deputy CEO of Huawei South Asia Enterprise Business Group; Syeda Kamrun Ahmed, Member of the Board of Directors of eGeneration Limited; Shameem Ahsan, Managing Director of eGeneration Ltd Prof. Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Director (MIS), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS); Lt. Col. Shah Md Ishtiaque, OIC, IT Center, Combined Military Hospital (CMH); and many other public and private high-ranking officials graced the program.

Professor Dr. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University said “I thank eGeneration and Huawei for hosting today’s event. The experience gained from this session will help us in the digitalization of our health sector.”

Zhangcheng (Justin) said, “ICT is gradually turning hospitals into e-hospitals and thus it is being possible to serve more people with new aspects of healthcare. We have been serving more than 2800 healthcare institutions of more than 90 countries. It is also important for Bangladesh to focus more on the ICT infrastructure development of hospital sector as we are moving towards Smart Bangladesh. The infrastructural development of the health care sector in Bangladesh will further enrich this sector. Huawei has been working as a partner in the development of ICT infrastructure in Bangladesh for the past 25 years and in the future, we would like to continue working towards the goal of Smart Bangladesh with our advanced technology.”

SM Ahsraful Islam, Chairman of eGeneration Ltd, emphasized the pressing challenges in healthcare provision caused by the global shortage of medical professionals. He underscored the pivotal role that technology can play in addressing this issue by bridging the gap between the growing demand for medical services and the limited capacity to meet these needs. Mr. Islam highlighted eGeneration’s diverse portfolio of digital solutions, which encompass telemedicine, ICU management systems, Electronic Health Records (EHR), and Machine Integration. These innovative offerings hold the potential to significantly enhance the healthcare sector’s capacity, efficiency, and overall productivity

In the keynote presentation, Syeda Kamrun Ahmed, Board of Directors of eGeneration, shed light on how Electronic Health Record (EMR) in a standard Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) solution can facilitate patient’s experience to get Appointment of doctors from home, to access medical records, past history, prescription and reports. She also emphasized how HMIS solution can help a hospital becomes process and cost efficient using this kind of solution. She also introduced eghealth, a complete hospital information management system (HMIS) developed by eGeneration which has been implemented in 5 BGB hospitals and in the process of implementing in Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hosital, Sylhet.

In the following presentation, Huawei Senior Manager Md. Anjamul highlighted the importance of the technological infrastructure required in digital health services.

In the closing speech, Mr. Shameem Ahsan, Managing Director of eGeneration concluded elaborating on of how collaboration among healthcare entities, technology solution provider and healthcare equipment manufacturer can contribute to develop an overall digital healthcare ecosystem for Smart Bangladesh.
