Polythene Plastic-Free Tourism: First Ship of the Season Reaches Saint Martin’s Island

On December 1, 2024, at 10:00 AM, the first tourist vessel of the season, MV Baro-Aulia, departed from the BIWTA’s Nuniachhara terminal in Cox’s Bazar for Saint Martin’s Island. The journey carried 653 tourists, all of whom adhered to the condition of traveling without plastic or polythene products.

Under close supervision by the district administration, travel passes were verified to ensure a smooth and organized journey. Tourists deposited their polythene and plastic items in designated garbage bins before boarding. As part of an eco-friendly initiative, complimentary cloth bags were provided to the passengers.

The Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar personally greeted the tourists aboard the ship, exchanging pleasantries. The tourists expressed their appreciation for the initiative and their satisfaction with the seamless management and eco-friendly measures.

On Saint Martin’s Island, officials from the tourism management committee, tourist police, and the Department of Environment worked collaboratively to ensure environmental conservation and controlled tourism operations. Their concerted efforts contributed significantly to protecting the island’s environment.

This initiative taken by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change alongwith concerned Departments sets a remarkable example of sustainable tourism, encouraging travelers to adopt more environmentally responsible practices in the future. Environment seeks cooperation from all to preserve environment in Saintmartin.
