Forest Department Raid at Swapnopuri Park in Dinajpur: 74 Wild Animals Rescued

A special operation was conducted today, January 26, 2025, at Swapnopuri Park and Mini Zoo in Nawabganj Upazila, Dinajpur. The operation was jointly carried out by the Wildlife Crime Control Unit and the Social Forestry Division of Dinajpur under the Forest Department.

During the operation, 74 wild animals were rescued. The rescued animals include Hoolock Gibbons, Asiatic Black Bears, Capped Langurs, Greater Hornbills, Slow Lorises, otters, and various species of snakes and turtles. Some of the animals were found injured.

The operation was led by Wildlife Inspectors Abdullah As Sadiq and Asim Mallik, under the overall supervision of Sanaullah Patwary, Director of the Wildlife Crime Control Unit. Officials from the Social Forestry Division of Dinajpur, including Assistant Conservator of Forests Nurunnahar, participated in the operation. Law enforcement officials from Nawabganj Police Station also provided necessary support.
Officials stated that these animals had been illegally confined and displayed at Swapnopuri Park for a long time. Necessary measures will be taken for their rehabilitation.

The park manager was interrogated as part of the investigation. No valid permits were presented to justify the possession of these animals. Legal actions will be taken following the investigation.

The Forest Department assured that similar operations will continue to combat wildlife crime and ensure wildlife conservation. Local residents have been urged to be more aware of the importance of protecting wildlife.
